TALENTED Cleary's ABC teenager Sean Greenfield surrendered his unbeaten record despite another impressive performance in the first round of the NACYP championships in Coventry on Sunday.
Greenfield, 18, was drawn against the highly experienced defending champion and England international James Melvin (Hall Green) in the opening round and he lost for the first time in eight fights by a majority verdict.
Greenfield, who was making his seasonal bow, more than matched his illustrious opponent throughout the four-round bout but was just edged out on points.
Coach Edwin Cleary said:"Melvin has won more national titles than Sean has had fights but it was a fantastic display and there is absolutely no disgrace in losing to the best in the country.
"It wasn't Sean's best performance but I was really pleased with the way he conducted himself and he has proved he can compete with the best now."
Greenfield now turns his attention to the ABA Novice championships which get under way at Bedworth this Sunday.
He will be joined by Cleary's ABC team-mates Ben Daley, Mike Cole, Gary Taylor and Jamie Hamlin.
